I like Bells cheap and cheerful Famous Grouse is good too.
I might go out and buy the Lidl one just to see what the fuss is all about. My brother is a Johnny Walker Black label fan and to be fare it is smooth.

Aldi's 8 year aged Highland black blend at £13.50 is excellent.
But my favourite is White & McKay, especially when you can pick up a litre for £15 or £16.
You can keep your nasty tasting Famous Grouse. Absolute garbage, made for those who only buy it for xmas.

Ballantines is my old man's favourite.
It's alright, but I rarely drink spirits, so I haven't got a favourite. Red wine and beer are my choice of poison.

For stuff like famous grouse and bells, the bottle costs more for them to produce than the whiskey. Similar to wine, because of tax etc the actual value of the product is only a tiny fraction of what you’re paying.
I’ll give this one a go - the Aldi regular gin that won awards a couple of years back is excellent so I’m more than happy to give this a go
